Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted.
Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. Psalm 127:1 (NLT)

As we move through the Lenten season, it is important to remember that spiritual disciplines are not to be used to get something from God, but to get closer to God and more in tune with Him. The first leads to engaging in religion, while the second leads us to engage with the Living God. Only with the power of the Holy Spirit will spiritual disciplines assist us in overcoming sin, navigating trials, putting on holy habits, and being fruitful in ministry.
