Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. — Matthew 6:19-21 (ESV)

Everything we are and have belongs to God. I am his creation and he wants me to live not as an owner but as a steward of the resources he provides. God has purposes for the ’stuff’ that is in our lives, but as stewards, not owners. Rather than treasure ‘stuff’, he wants us to treasure relationships, and use ’stuff’ to bless others (including those for whom we are responsible). Start today by asking yourself, “Which do I treasure more—‘stuff’ or people?”
